Your doctors tell you to do it… Your body tells you to do it… and more and more often, your companies are PAYING for you to do it…
I am talking about WORKING OUT.
Writing this blog post occurred to me after telling a friend I had been struggling with the feeling of guilt over going to the gym because I had a list of things to do that felt a million miles long.
So, today I shutdown my computer and at 1:45pm and hit the gym.
I got in there and completed ALL of my training. I left feeling accomplished and MORE IMPORTANTLY… more ALERT, ALIVE, and FOCUSED.
The same work was waiting for me when I returned home, and it took me 1/3 of the time to complete it because I wasn’t slogging through it in a distracted and tired fashion. I busted through it with mental clarity and it felt great!
I find it kind of funny even a FITNESS PROFESSIONAL has workout guilt.
Not anymore. When I decide to work out, I know I am doing myself, my family, my clients and my business a favor. When we take care of ourselves first, we are better-equipped to take care of those around us. Remember, “secure your oxygen mask before assisting those around you.”
It may have taken me a year and a half to finally realize that it is OK to work out in the middle of the day. After all, sometimes I find myself working well into the evening to complete projects. It’s important to make time for ourselves and get the training in where and when we can because we deserve to feel and look our best!
When you are happy, those around you benefit from your positive and productive endorphin rush.
So why is it that we sometimes feel guilty for taking time to work out? A very large portion of a fitness journey and lifestyle change is that mental tape we have running in our heads. It is the inner voice which needs the most training.
How is your inner voice? What else do you struggle with in the self-care department?
